Mansfield West

My name is Phil Shields and I am standing in the election in May to be your County Councillor .

I joined the Green Party some time ago as I liked the values and their long term plans for making Mansfield a place where people are proud to say they come from.

We as a Party are not bound by corporate donations nor do we have a party whip.(unlike other parties who’s members are told how to vote on issues ) this means I am able to vote at council meetings solely in the interests of the people I represent.

I stood in the recent General Election to become Mansfield’s MP for the Green Party ,paying for my own fees and advertising which I believe shows my commitment.

I come from a working class background and am not standing for personal gain ,I just think you have been sold out by Labour and Conservatives who have held the 2 County Councillor positions for the last 4 years.

I have been a District Councillor in the past and have a wealth of knowledge particularly when it comes to Planning. I attended several weekend courses at Warwick University giving up my weekends so I had the knowledge to challenge officers when it comes to planning matters. I also held the position on the Mayors Cabinet of Portfolio Holder Environment and Leisure , making key decisions in these areas. I am passionate about our Green Spaces and Parks , Nature Reserves and Open Spaces and do not want to see them exploited by the quest for BUILD, BUILD, BUILD at any cost by our current government . I will use all my knowledge and experience to protect these spaces

I will always fight hard for my constituents , after all it is you who I am ultimately accountable to but to do this I need your vote .

The role of County Councillor ,to me, is a full time job and I promise I will be a full time Councillor who is always available and who will be very visible amongst the community . I don’t believe in wearing suits and ties I prefer to be seen getting my hands dirty and dealing with the everyday issues we have to confront.

Every day I hear people saying its time for change but you are the only people who can make change happen by voting for me and a party which has been around many years fighting for the same causes ,so please vote green on election day.
