Hello, to introduce myself my name is Phillip Shields but everyone calls me Phil
So, a bit about me.
I have lived in the district of Mansfield since my family moved here from the North East in 1966.
I was Educated at The Manor Tech Grammar School in Woodhouse and have had several places of work including The Civil Service, Notts Constabulary, Finance as well as having my own Mortgage Administration company.
In 2010 I got into politics and was elected as councillor for the district in May 2011.
I held the position of Portfolio Holder for the Environment for the following 4 years.
In 2015 I stood as a totally independent candidate to become Mayor and polled just under 10000 votes. I stood again in 2019 and polled just under 3000 votes , not enough to get elected but I was elected again as Councillor .
For the next 4 years I held the position of Chair of Scrutiny.
I decided to join the Green Party as I truly believe we are the only party able to deliver a true green agenda and also, I think it is time Mansfield had a genuine alternative to Labour and Conservatives and to combat the Reform extremism,
You only have to see nationally how the mainstream parties are pulling back from funding the much-needed green agenda.
Mansfield has a great deal of ‘’green’’ issues ranging from the disappearance of greenfield spaces, the lack of green industry jobs and poor environmental planning for the future.
I am a highly motivated individual who has experience of running for election and believe our Party can cause an upset in the County Elections on the 1st May 2025 .
Leafleting, flyers, helping on stalls, door stepping all this and much more will help in Phil's quest in become Mansfield West's county councillor
Can you help?
